Veeshan, the Wurm Mother
The dragon-goddess and matriarch of all wyrmkind, creator of the Iksar and progenitor of the Ring of Scale.
Veeshan is the dragon-goddess and the matriarch of all wyrmkind. She is the eldest of the wurm-form deities, the mother of the dragons that scale Velious and lair in the Skyshrine, and (by the Iksar's own canon) the maker of the Iksar themselves through her servants the Cursed of Ssraeshza. Her domain is dragonkind, draconic magic, and the long memory of races whose lifespans run to centuries. Her followers are few among the playable races but disproportionately significant — Iksar above all, with scattered cells of arcane Veeshan-cultists across the human and erudite arcane orders.
Her realm is the Plane of Sky in some readings, though her most direct presence is felt in the Skyshrine of Western Wastes and in the dragon courts she founded. She is broadly neutral toward the upper pantheon's moral conflicts — dragons regard the squabbles of younger races as beneath their notice — and is most directly opposed by Brell Serilis on those occasions when his dwarven followers war with her dragon courts in Velious.
Lore
Veeshan is named in the elder myths as one of the eldest of the dragon-form deities, present at the formation of Norrath and credited in the Iksar canon with the creation of the lizard-folk through her servants. The Iksar texts treat her as the indirect mother of the race; the Cursed of Ssraeshza, in the Iksar account, were her instruments. Her dragon children — Lord Yelinak, Lady Vox, Lord Nagafen, Sontalak, Klandicar, and the broader Ring of Scale — are the visible expression of her lineage in the era cap.
Her clergy among the playable races is small. Iksar Necromancers and Shamans (Shamans canonically of Cazic-Thule rather than Veeshan, but with Veeshanic resonances in some sects) most often venerate her, and a thin scatter of human and erudite Necromancers and Wizards study her draconic-magic legacy through the cell-cult network. The dragons themselves are her most direct followers; the Skyshrine and the dragon lairs of Velious operate as her standing courts, and the Ring of Scale's hierarchy mirrors her own ancient organization of wyrmkind.
Class and race access
Canonical EQ deity restrictions on Veeshan cover Necromancer, Magician, Wizard, Enchanter, Warrior, and Rogue. The arcane caster lines dominate her playable worship — her domain of draconic magic is most directly accessed through pure-caster disciplines — and her Warrior and Rogue followers tend to be drawn from races (Iksar primarily) whose cultural traditions already venerate her. She does not accept Paladins, Clerics in the playable canon, Druids, Rangers, Monks, Bards, Shamans (in the strict canonical reading), or Beastlords.
On The Last Camp the any-race-class doctrine unlocks racial combinations — a High Elf Necromancer of Veeshan, a Halfling Wizard of Veeshan — but the canonical deity-on-class restrictions remain. The Iksar are her primary playable race in the canon; on The Last Camp other races may claim her with the racial-faction implications attached.
Realm and epic ties
The Skyshrine of Western Wastes and the dragon courts of Velious are the most directly accessible expressions of Veeshan's domain in the era cap. Her connection to the Plane of Sky is canonical though indirect (the plane is older than her). The Necromancer epic (Scythe of the Shadowed Soul) has thematic resonance with her domain of deep time and undeath-magic, and the Wizard epic (Staff of the Four) touches dragonkind directly in its later phases.
Notable followers and quests
The Ring of Scale in Velious — Lord Yelinak, Klandicar, Sontalak, and the broader dragon court of Skyshrine — are the most named of her followers. The Iksar racial progression in Cabilis, Field of Bone, and the Lake of Ill Omen references her lineage repeatedly, and the Velious dragon-faction quests are the era's most direct interaction with her court. The Coldain Ring War in Eastern Wastes is the most contested theater of her court's conflict with Brell Serilis's dwarven followers, and quest progression on either side of that war touches her name explicitly.
The Last Camp-specific notes
The any-race-class doctrine produces unusual but lore-defensible Veeshan characters under the racial unlock — a High Elf Necromancer who has chosen the dragon-mother, an Erudite Wizard who studies draconic magic from her perspective rather than the human one. Faction with the dragon courts of Velious will be favorable; faction with the dwarven Coldain who oppose them will be hostile from the deity choice, and the racial-faction starts will read as secondary to the Veeshanic mark.
Worship and observance
Veeshan's clergy is small enough that public observances are rare; the cult cells operate on the calendar of their host institutions rather than a shared one. The Iksar racial calendar incorporates her name in several seasonal observances, and the dragon courts of Skyshrine recognize her in their internal hierarchy explicitly. Pilgrimage to Skyshrine at the era cap is the canonical capstone of her clergy's lay-progression, and the dragons of the court treat the visiting lay-followers as historical-record oddities rather than peers. Initiation into the human and erudite cult cells requires a demonstrated commitment to draconic-magic study extending over years rather than months.
