Coldain Hero Status (Shawl 14)
The endgame Coldain reputation tier — Shawl 14, Ring War access, and the legendary regen back-slot.
Coldain Hero status is the Velious endgame for the Coldain dwarves of Thurgadin. Where the Coldain Shawl quest walks a character through Shawls 1-13, the Hero tier extends the chain through the Ring War prelude and ends with Shawl 14 — Shawl of the Coldain Hero, the legendary back-slot regen item that defines a player's full commitment to Velious progression.
This page covers what sits beyond the standard Shawl walkthrough: the faction wall, the Ring 10 prerequisite, the Ring War itself, and the final reward turn-in.

Reward
Shawl of the Coldain Hero is the legendary 14th shawl: best-in-slot back item for the era for most casters and a top-tier choice for melee. The regen tick alone is worth the chain; the stat package is era-defining. Possessing it is also a permanent flag in dialog with most Coldain NPCs — they recognize the title.
Walkthrough — beyond Shawl 13
Step 1 — Confirm Shawls 1-13 complete
Shawl 14 is not available until Shawls 1-13 sit in your inventory or have been turned in canonically. The chain is strict and ordered. Reference the Coldain Shawl quest for the prerequisite walkthrough.
Step 2 — Ring 10 prerequisite (Ring War access)
The Hero tier requires you to be Ring 10 in the Coldain Ring quest series — the parallel ring chain that earns increasing-quality finger slot rings. Ring 10 is the access prerequisite for the Ring War raid event.
The Ring quest chain runs from Ring 1-10 with steadily climbing faction requirements; Ring 10 specifically requires the player to be present for the Ring War raid encounter.
Step 3 — Participate in the Ring War
The Ring War is the multi-wave raid defense of Thurgadin. Velious giants assault the city; the player's job is to defend the Coldain leadership, kill named giants on schedule, and survive to the boss wave.
On The Last Camp the Ring War follows TAKP-canonical scripting — wave order, named spawn timing, and faction rewards are unchanged from era. Coordinate with a guild raid; this is not a solo encounter.
Step 4 — Post-Ring-War turn-ins
After the Ring War succeeds, return to the Coldain Hero quest-giver in Thurgadin (the same NPC line that gave Shawls 12-13). The dialog now offers the final Hero chain — typically a sequence of three short turn-ins that confirm the player's standing as a defender of Thurgadin.
These are usually:
- A trophy from the Ring War boss wave.
- A quest item recovered from Kael Drakkel — the giant capital.
- A final tradeskill combine or commemorative piece (canonical recipes vary by source).
Step 5 — Shawl 14 turn-in
Hand the final components to the Coldain Hero quest-giver. The dialog confirms your status as Coldain Hero and rewards Shawl of the Coldain Hero. The title is also granted in some sources — server-specific dialog hooks may vary.
Final turn-in
Done. Shawl 14 is no-drop and lore. The chain is one-time per character.
Custom race-class adjustments
The Hero tier is class-neutral. Faction is the only blocker — opposed races (Dark Elf, Troll, Ogre) face a longer Coldain faction grind to even start the standard Shawl chain. The Last Camp's any-race-class doctrine does not change the faction math; if you started the Shawl chain you have already cleared the faction wall.
The Ring War itself rewards raid attendance, not racial play — DE Paladins and Troll Clerics earn the Hero tier identically to Dwarf Warriors.
Why Hero status matters
Coldain Hero is the era's signature personal-progression badge. Plenty of players have raid-tier loot; relatively few finish the full Shawl chain to Hero. The badge represents a multi-month commitment to a single faction — the antithesis of opportunistic loot grabs.
The shawl itself is the mechanical reward, but the title is what most veterans remember. Carrying Hero on a character is shorthand for "this person did the long-form quest work."
Tips
- Run Ring quests in parallel with Shawl quests. They share zones and faction lifts — every Ring turn-in is also Shawl progress.
- Coordinate Ring War with your guild. Most guilds run Ring War on a published schedule; missing a slotted run delays the chain by weeks.
- Hold faction. A single faction-loss event (killing a Coldain) can derail multiple shawls and rings — check faction before any Velious overland kill.
- Bring the right tradeskill kit to the Ring War. Some scripted turn-ins inside the event need on-site combines.
- The title is permanent. Coldain Hero recognition unlocks dialog with several NPCs throughout Velious.
- Cross-link with the Ring War walkthrough for raid-night logistics and boss-wave order.
