Befallen

Befallen is a multi-floor undead dungeon south of West Commonlands, entered through a sunken keep entrance. Five descending floors of skeletons, zombies, ghouls, and the necromancer order that animates them. A defining Classic dungeon and a Paladin's reliably-faster XP zone.

Geography

Befallen descends through interconnected floors carved out of a collapsed keep:

• Floor 1 — entry hall (newbie pulls L4-8): a_skeleton, a_giant_rat, a_plague_rat, a_decaying_skeleton, a_putrid_skeleton, a_cracked_skeleton, a_skeletal_excavator.
• Floor 2 — necromancer rows (L7-15): a_necro_neophyte, a_necro_initiate, a_necro_acolyte. Caster pulls — bring magic resist.
• Floor 3 — undead halls (L11-19): a_zombie, a_burnt_zombie, a_lesser_mummy, a_dread_bone, a_greater_skeleton, a_sturdy_skeleton, a_willowisp.
• Floor 4 — the deep camps (L13-17): a_ghoul, ice_boned_skeleton, the_thaumaturgist boss room.
• Floor 5 — the bottom (L17-25): a_necro_theurgist + the_thaumaturgist L17 + Priest_Amiaz L16 + Boondin_Babbinsbort L25 (zone boss).

Why Paladins love it

Undead-heavy zone means Slay Undead and undead stun procs matter. Paladin XP in Befallen is reliably faster than any other zone of the same level, group composition equal. Bring Yaulp + Holy Might + a Cleric for sustained pulls.

Camps

• Necromancer training row (mid-floor) — high-density (~100+ spawn cluster) of a_necro_neophyte through a_necro_acolyte. Best XP pull for L7-15 groups. Casters; bring magic resist gear.
• Skeleton hall (upper floor) — the_thaumaturgist + a_greater_skeleton + a_dread_bone + a_sturdy_skeleton cluster. Mixed melee + caster.
• Ghoul-Ice corridor (mid-low) — a_ghoul + ice_boned_skeleton. The ice variants proc Ice Bone Frost Burst — keep fire resist up.
• Priest_Amiaz cycle (deep) — lich boss with a_ghoul L13 placeholder cycle. Patient pulls clear the PH cycle before the boss spawns.
• Boondin's chamber (bottom) — zone boss, halfling necromancer surrounded by a_necro_theurgist + a_dread_bone retinue.

Loot highlights

• Skeleton trash — Bone Chips (signature drop, ~55% per skeleton). The classic Necro/SK component farm.
• Boss tier — Blackened Wand 100% off Priest Amiaz (lich research); Bronze Claymore + ringmail set + 3 zone keys off a_shadowknight L14; Boondin Babbinsbort full caster boss loot.
• Skeleton Parts, low-tier weapons, tarnished armor — standard newbie-tier components and gear.

Post-classic items (Wisp Essence, Crystallized Sulfur/Marrow, Decaying Bones, monk weapons) previously leaked onto L4-22 trash were removed in the 2026-05-22 canonical pass.

Faction notes

Befallen is run by the necromancer order — Befallen Inhabitants (TAKP faction 856), Burning Dead (1630), Cult of the Arisen variants. Killing trash here ticks against these factions and toward neutral allies. The Will-O-Wisps on the middle floors are corrupted (KOS-undead 623), not nature-spirit-aligned.

Tradeskill / quest hooks

• Ghoulbane — the classic Paladin epic precursor weapon has its quest line tied to deep-floor mob drops.
• Necromancer epic precursors — Boondin and Priest Amiaz are both spell-research drop sources.
