THE LAST CAMP

Quellious is the goddess of tranquility, peace, and the patient inner work that earns either of those at any reliable scale.

The pantheon styles her the Tranquil; the monastic orders address her by name.

She is one of the youngest figures in the central pantheon and arguably the most ambitious — her central act in the modern era was the opening of the Plane of Knowledge to every mortal soul on Norrath, an act that fundamentally changed how the world's people travel and how they understand each other.

Origins

Quellious's place in the pantheon is younger than most. The older theological texts treat her as a recent addition to the upper court, formalized only after the monastic traditions of Antonica and Kunark were already several generations established.

Her followers prefer a different account: that Quellious was always present in the world as the absence of disturbance — that meditation was her sphere before any mortal sat down to attempt it — and that her formal recognition by the upper court was simply the council's late acknowledgment of a goddess who had been there all along.

Both accounts agree on the modern shape of her worship; they disagree only on its provenance.

Her great public act in the recent era was the opening of the Plane of Knowledge. What had been a small private retreat became, at her direction, a public hub keyed to every starting city's home temple. The decision was controversial within the pantheon — several deities preferred their cities to remain costly to reach — but Quellious held the line, and the plane has remained open since.

Conflicts and alliances

Quellious's central oppositions are with Cazic-Thule, god of fear, whose dread directly contradicts her sphere of stillness, and with Rallos Zek, god of war, whose entire portfolio is the disturbance she works against.

The standing antagonism with the Rallosian camp has been quietly cited as one of the reasons the Plane of Knowledge sits where it sits, and why its hub-architecture is structured to make the journey to any martial destination just slightly slower than the journey to any peaceful one. The Tranquil does not contest the reading.

She stands in good alliance with Tunare, with whom her sphere shares a foundation of patient cycles, and with the Marr line, whose discipline she respects even where she disagrees with its martial expression. Her relationship with Bristlebane is one of polite mutual amusement; the trickster has more than once accused her of being the only god in the pantheon who is genuinely funny without trying.

Domain

Tranquility, peace, meditation, the patient inner work that grounds either, the discipline of stillness that the monastic orders take as foundational.

Her sphere also covers the secondary work of accessibility — the opening of paths, the lowering of barriers between mortal communities — and the corresponding architectural and theological work that makes the Plane of Knowledge function.

The Tranquil's theology distinguishes carefully between peace and inactivity. Peace is the result of patient inner work; inactivity is the failure to begin it. The cult treats the distinction as foundational and trains its monks accordingly.

Followers

Monks of every race name her as their primary patron, and the great monastic orders of Freeport and Shar Vahl hold her at the center of their practice.

Cleric-of-Quellious orders maintain a smaller but devoted presence, distinct from the Marr-aligned and Rodcet-aligned cleric lines by their emphasis on contemplative healing rather than martial or medical.

Pacifist pilgrims of every race find welcome in her temples. For class restriction details see /wiki/deities/quellious.

Planar realm

The Plane of Tranquility is Quellious's outer plane — a green and quiet realm of long sloping fields, calm water, and the patient attention of the Tranquil herself.

The plane is consistently described as the most restful destination in the modern progression; visitors report that the rest is itself part of the work the plane is doing.

The Plane of Knowledge sits as her central public hub, a library-architecture organized around the books that key to every starting city. Both planes share the Tranquil's signature quality: they are calmer than the rest of the modern progression by a margin that visitors notice immediately. The breeze in either plane is held to be an extension of the goddess's attention.
