Warrior Leveling Guide (1-65)
The Warrior tank path from newbie axe-swinger to Plane of Time main tank.
Leveling a Warrior on The Last Camp from 1 to 65.
The Warrior is the simplest class to play and the hardest to play well. From level 1 you swing weapons; from level 15 onward you tank for groups. There is no Mez, no charm, no nuke — your job is to hold aggro, eat the hits, and let the rest of the group do their work. That sounds boring on paper. In practice, a great Warrior is the most-recruited body in any group and the centerpiece of every raid.
The class is brutally gear-dependent. A naked Warrior at 50 is worse than a half-geared Cleric at 35. Your levels are gated by what you can equip — fine steel weapons, banded armor, then bronze, then quested plate, then Lower Guk drops, then Velious turn-ins. Solo grinding is possible but slow; the Warrior path is fundamentally a group path. Plan your levels around finding tanks-needed groups in the right zone for your tier.
At a glance
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Solo strength | Weak (no heals, no CC, mana-free but kill-rate-limited) |
| Group demand | Very high (everyone needs a tank) |
| Hardest tier | 30-45 (mob HP outpaces your damage and gear) |
| Easiest tier | 50-60 (you're the OT/MT in every dungeon group) |
| The Last Camp race options | All 16 (per server doctrine — see race notes below) |
Tier-by-tier
1-10 (Newbie)
- Solo: Newbie yard outside your starting city. Swing a rusty weapon at greens. Do the racial newbie quest for a no-drop weapon (Crooked Stick, Reinforced Sword Hilt, etc.).
- Group: Not common at this tier; solo is faster.
- Common race-class start: Canonical Warrior races start at home (Halas, Qeynos, Freeport, Cabilis, Kaladim, Akanon, Grobb, Oggok). Non-canonical races on The Last Camp start in their racial city — Erudite Warriors begin in Paineel and should head to Toxxulia Forest.
- Bind at your hometown and stay in the newbie ring until 8.
- Buy a fine steel weapon the moment you can afford one (~30pp on the bazaar — life-changing damage upgrade).
- Level Taunt and Kick from the start; they share an aggro pool.
- Skill up 1H Slashing, 1H Blunt, 2H Slashing in parallel — you'll need all three over the next 50 levels.
10-20
- Solo: Crushbone Keep (orcs, banded), Blackburrow (gnolls), Oasis (crocs and spectres).
- Group: Crushbone Keep throne room rotation, Befallen tier-1.
- Camps: Crushbone Keep throne, Blackburrow froglok pool, Befallen first-floor cells.
- Gear: Banded armor (full set ~50pp), fine steel sword, oak shield. Look for Crushbone belt drops.
- Practice Bash with your shield to interrupt caster mobs.
- This is your first taste of real aggro management — Kick + Taunt + auto-attack rotation.
20-30
- Solo: Estate of Unrest outdoor mobs (be careful of trains), Najena entrance.
- Group: Befallen tier-2/3, Sol A entrance, Upper Guk ent rooms.
- Camps: Befallen tier-2 (book quest area), Sol A entry, Upper Guk priest of Marr.
- Gear: First disc upgrades. Quested mid-tier 2H weapons (Velium-touched, etc.). Bronze plate from drops.
- Disciplines unlock at 20 (Defensive at 30) — these are your panic buttons. Learn the rotation.
- Get into groups. Soloing past 25 as a Warrior is wildly inefficient.
30-40
- Solo: Almost nothing efficient. If you must, Sol A lower greens or outdoor mobs in South Karana.
- Group: Lower Guk, Mistmoore Castle, Sol B outer.
- Camps: Lower Guk frenzied ghoul room (FBSS!), Mistmoore basement, Sol B kobolds.
- Gear: Flowing Black Silk Sash from Frenzied Ghoul. Bronze full set or quested mid-game plate. Look for crafted Velium pieces.
- This is the hardest tier — mobs hit harder than your healers can keep pace, and your damage is low. Bring a Shaman for slow if at all possible.
- Fungus-Covered Scale Tunic in Lower Guk is a lifetime upgrade. Camp it.
40-50
- Solo: Still painful. Skip ahead and group.
- Group: Lower Guk deep, Sol B interior, Kaesora, Karnor's Castle entrance.
- Camps: LGuk Ghoul Lord, Sol B efreeti, Kaesora top floor, KC entry torchbearers.
- Gear: Fungi tunic, Wurmslayer (Burning Woods quest), Earthshaker (multi-class fallback). Drape of the Loremasters from Mistmoore.
- Defensive Disc at 30 → improved versions at 41, 51. Pop in panic moments.
- Start working on your Warrior Epic 1.0 (Monsoon, Sword of the Swiftwind) prep — flag-camping in Skyfire and Burning Woods.
50-60
- Solo: No.
- Group: Karnor's Castle, Old Sebilis, Velketor's Labyrinth, City of Mist.
- Camps: KC main hall, Seb crypt and disco, Velks spider rooms, CoM golems.
- Gear: Velious turn-in armor (group or raid tier). Epic 1.0 by 55+. Velious shields.
- Tank everything. You're the most desired body in any 50+ group.
- Begin raid attendance — Plane of Hate, Plane of Sky, Velious raid mobs.
60-65 (PoP cap)
- Solo: No.
- Group: Plane of Valor, Halls of Honor, Bastion of Thunder, Plane of Storms.
- Raids: Plane of Time progression, elemental planes.
- Gear: PoP elemental gear, Time armor, Plane of Valor jewelry.
- Burn AA on Combat Stability and Combat Agility first — these define your raid survivability.
- You are the main tank or off-tank for every endgame raid. Learn to taunt-cycle with the other tanks.
The Last Camp any-race-class race notes
The Last Camp allows every race in every class. For Warriors, this is mostly upside — Warriors are a permitted class for 11 of 16 races canonically, so most race choices have a normal starting city. The unusual combos: Erudite Warrior starts in Paineel (no Warrior trainer historically), so head to Erudin for skill caps and Toxxulia Forest to grind 1-15. Wood Elf Warrior starts in Kelethin and works fine in Greater Faydark and Crushbone Keep. Halfling Warrior starts in Rivervale — grind in Misty Thicket and travel to Faydwer for Crushbone Keep at 10.
Stat distribution matters more than race for tanking. Ogre Warriors get the famous frontal-stun-immunity at level 1, but any race can tank to 65 with proper gear. Troll Warriors regen HP in combat (small but real). Dwarven and Halfling Warriors trade max HP for hit-rate stats — fine for groups, weaker on raids.
Equipment goals per tier
| Tier | Weapon target | Armor target | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-10 | Rusty → Bronze 1H | Cloth + leather scraps | Bind at home |
| 10-20 | Fine Steel 2H or 1H+shield | Banded full set | Crushbone belt, fine steel sword |
| 20-40 | Quested mid-game (Velium-touched, Bronze 2H) | Bronze full → quested plate | First major gear leap |
| 40-60 | Wurmslayer, Earthshaker, Epic 1.0 | Fungi, Velious turn-in plate | Epic + first raid drops |
| 60-65 | PoP weapons, Time-tier 2H | Elemental armor, Time pieces | AAs > new gear past 62 |
Common mistakes
- Skipping Taunt training — it's not optional, it's your primary aggro tool.
- Ignoring 1H Blunt — undead in CoM/Hate require blunt for max damage.
- Not getting the Fungi Tunic — it doubles your in-combat regen for the rest of the game.
- Soloing past 25 — you'll fall 3-5 levels behind grouped Warriors per week.
- Skipping Defensive Disc rotations — that's free damage mitigation you're throwing away.
- Forgetting to bind at zone-in for raid zones (especially PoP planes).
