Nektulos Forest is a dense, perpetually-twilight wood east of East Commonlands, wrapped around the entrance to the dark elf capital of Neriak. The sky here never brightens past dusk — a side effect of Innoruuk's blessing on the woods, or his curse on them, depending on who in Neriak you ask. The river that runs through the zone is the dark elves' main outbound route to the rest of Antonica.

It is one of the four canonical "starter outdoor zones" alongside Greater Faydark, Innothule Swamp, and Misty Thicket. The mob spread covers low-teens skeletons and wolves through high-teens spider cultists and deeper undead near the Neriak side, with the dark elf patrols themselves acting as tutorial-tier escorts for any character their faction recognizes.

Content

  • Wolves and bears in the low-teens spread across the forest
  • Skeletons and zombies along the river and the deeper trails
  • Spider-cult NPCs — Innoruuk-faithful, mid-teens, deeper into the woods
  • Dark elf patrols — friendly to Neriak-aligned characters, hostile to good-aligned ones
  • The Nektulos River — bisects the zone north to south, with a ferry connection
  • Boat dock to Erud's Crossing in the southern arm

Why bother

Nektulos is the canonical leveling ground for dark elves and the easiest "evil-side" outdoor zone to reach for any character that wants a Neriak bind. On The Last Camp the any-race-class doctrine widens that net — a Wood Elf Necromancer can run the woods just as cleanly as a Teir'Dal one, and a Halfling Shadow Knight can use the zone for early experience without anyone in Innoruuk's shrine raising an objection.

The boat to Erud's Crossing is the practical reason a non-evil character ends up here. The Nektulos dock is the southern Antonica gateway to Odus, and the run from East Commonlands through Nektulos to the dock is short enough that even a low-level character can make the trip with a SoW and a little patience. The forest itself is a serviceable XP zone for the early teens — not the best (Crushbone Keep and Blackburrow both push more XP per pull) but the most atmospheric, and the only one with a dark elf-shaped sky.

Using it well

Watch the dark elf factions. A good-aligned character running the river without invis will pull patrols, and the patrols hit at a level that punishes anyone soloing under fifteen. Sneaking past the Neriak Foreign Quarter entrance is the standard approach for non-aligned travelers heading to the boat dock.

The forest is dark enough that a light source matters even for races with infravision — the canopy cuts visibility further than the time-of-day code suggests. A group XP-ing here should pick a clearing along the river rather than trying to hold a patrol-heavy spot near the city wall. Bind in Nektulos itself only if you intend to use it as your home zone; otherwise bind in the Neriak Foreign Quarter or back in Commonlands.
