Kerafyrm the Sleeper
The Velious sleeping dragon. Server-shattering raid event and EQ's most legendary encounter.
Kerafyrm the Sleeper is the Velious sleeping dragon — the offspring of a deliberate hybridization experiment by the Claws of Veeshan, sealed in Sleeper's Tomb by his own kin to prevent the apocalypse his existence makes possible. If a raid completes the "Wake the Sleeper" quest by killing his four guardian dragons, Kerafyrm awakens, breaks his seal, and flies across Velious in a one-shot scripted event. The event destroys multiple zones and rewrites the dragon-court roster permanently, and the player who triggered it is recorded in server history. He is the most legendary single encounter in EverQuest's history.

Lore
Kerafyrm is the result of a Claws of Veeshan experiment in dragon hybridization — a successful crossing of the Veeshan-blood line with the chromatic dragon line, producing a dragon of unprecedented power. The Velious dragon courts realized too late what they had created, and the experiment's outcome was a being whose magical capacity exceeded the safe bounds of any single dragon court to contain. The Claws sealed him in the Tomb of the Sleeper at the heart of Velious, posted four guardian dragons (Tukaarak, Nanzata, Hraashna, Ventani) to ensure the seal held, and forbade any further mention of his existence in the public dragon courts.
In the canonical EverQuest lore Kerafyrm cannot be defeated by mortal raids; the original design intent was that the Wake the Sleeper quest would trigger him as an unstoppable server-shattering event. The player who triggered it bears the historical weight of the action — server lore records the guild and the date, and the post-wake dragon courts are permanently changed. Later expansions (post-PoP, out of The Last Camp's era) added mechanics by which Kerafyrm could be killed in a separate sealed instance, but those are out of scope here — on The Last Camp the canonical pre-cap Kerafyrm is what ships.
Guardians and the seal
The four guardian dragons — Tukaarak the Warder, Nanzata the Warder, Hraashna the Warder, Ventani the Warder — each hold one of the four chambers around the Sleeper's central crypt. Each is a Vulak-tier dragon raid in its own right, with a substantial loot table and a serious encounter. Killing all four triggers the awakening cinematic, after which the tomb is permanently empty and Kerafyrm is loose; killing fewer than four leaves the seal intact and the loot accessible without the apocalypse trigger.
Encounter
There are two distinct encounters depending on the state of the seal.
The Sleeper's Tomb four-guardian raid is a fightable encounter — Tukaarak, Nanzata, Hraashna, and Ventani are individually killable raid dragons of the Vulak-tier, each holding a chamber of the tomb. Killing all four triggers the awakening cinematic, after which the tomb is permanently empty and Kerafyrm is loose.
The awake Kerafyrm event is canonical EQ's only true server-event raid: he flies across Velious on a scripted path, destroys the Skyshrine dragon court (killing the named dragons that hold those zones), and is canonically unkillable through standard raid mechanics in The Last Camp era cap. The drops from the four guardians are the encounter's recoverable loot; Kerafyrm himself, once awake, is the lore-event payoff rather than a loot target. The Last Camp tuning may differ — verify before pulling.
Approach
The standard four-guardian raid approach is a 36-54 player raid that has progressed through Temple of Veeshan or equivalent apex Velious content, assembling at the Sleeper's Tomb zone-in. Each guardian is a separate Vulak-tier raid; the standard pattern is to clear them in a planned order — most guilds run the four kills sequentially over a single long raid night, with explicit preparation for the awakening cinematic that triggers on the fourth kill. Guilds that intend to recover the loot without triggering the wake stop after killing three guardians; the fourth is the irreversible step. A standard four-kill night runs four to six hours depending on raid composition.
Notable drops
- Class-specific raid drops from the four guardians (caster robes, plate pieces, melee weapons in the apex Velious tier)
- Sleeper's Vigil components (Cleric / Druid epic-tier follow-on)
- Tukaarak / Nanzata / Hraashna / Ventani named drops
- Lore-text items recording the wake-event in player history
- Permanent server-history achievement record (canonical: the guild that triggers the wake is named in server lore forever)
- Apex Velious components for follow-on quest chains
