Scythe of the Shadowed Soul
Necromancer Epic 1.0 reward — a 1H Blunt with the Torment of Shadows clicky and a deep INT/mana stat block.
Scythe of the Shadowed Soul is the Necromancer Epic 1.0 reward — a one-handed blunt weapon (the scythe shape is cosmetic; the item is classed as 1H Blunt) granted at the end of the long necromantic chain that threads Mistmoore, Befallen, and the Plane of Hate. In hand, the scythe combines a class-defining clicky lifetap with the strongest caster stat block any Necromancer can equip in era.
It replaces the patchwork of earlier Necromancer Primary options — Velium-tipped walking canes, raid-drop staves, low-tier wands — with one item that lasts the rest of the era cap.
Why it matters
Necromancer endgame is built on long fights, twitch-pet rotations, and rolling DOT stacks. The scythe's 80 mana and +20 INT keep DOTs cycling and push the mana cap higher. The +15 to Poison and Disease resists is intentional — the epic chain itself drags the Necromancer through the worst poison and disease zones in the era, and the scythe rounds out a Necromancer's resist profile without burning group buff slots.
The headline, though, is the clicky: Torment of Shadows is a Must-Equip lifetap-flavored effect that lands a hefty single-target nuke plus a snare. A Necromancer with the scythe in hand has an extra burst tool that doesn't cost a spell slot.
At-a-glance highlights
- Headline: Torment of Shadows clicky — large damage + snare on cast
- Class: Necromancer only
- Slot: Primary (1H Blunt — the scythe shape is cosmetic)
- Era: Kunark (Epic Quests era)
- Source: Necromancer Epic 1.0 chain — Mistmoore, Befallen, Lake Rathe, Plane of Hate
- Identity: Visible badge of completion — recognisable across a zone
The Last Camp any-race-class note
The scythe is class-locked at the item level — only Necromancers can equip it. The Last Camp's open class system means a Necromancer character may belong to any race, including races classic EQ never permitted as Necromancers (Wood Elf, Halfling, Ogre, Troll, Vah Shir). The chain itself does not adjust: the scythe is class-driven, not race-driven, and every Necromancer regardless of race walks the same Mistmoore-to-Hate path to claim it.
How to obtain
The Necromancer Epic 1.0 quest threads Mistmoore, Befallen, Lake Rathe, and the Plane of Hate, with several soul-themed turn-ins and a final fight against a powerful lich-class encounter. The Plane of Hate segment is the major raid gate; the rest can be done with a strong group.
