King Tormax
The frost giant king of Kael Drakkel. Ring War endgame and Coldain conflict capstone.
King Tormax is the frost giant king of Kael Drakkel — ruler of the Kromrif and the climactic figure of the Coldain-Giants war that defines the Velious expansion's largest faction arc. He sits the throne in the deep keep of Kael Drakkel, surrounded by his standing army of frost giants. His death triggers the collapse of the Kromrif as a faction power on Velious and shifts the Coldain-aligned questline into its final phase. He is a raid target whose kill closes one half of the Velious faction map and opens the other.

Lore
The Kromrif are the frost giant nation of the Velious continent, holding the northern Great Divide and the central peaks against the Coldain dwarves and the dragon courts of Skyshrine. Tormax is their king — the latest of a dynastic line that has held the throne of Kael Drakkel for centuries. The Velious expansion's central war narrative is the long Coldain-Kromrif conflict that culminates in his death. The Coldain "Ring War" quest line is the player's path through this conflict; Tormax is the final encounter at the war's climax, and his loot table includes ring components that mark a Coldain-aligned guild's full progression through the chain.
In canonical lore Tormax is allied with the Claws of Veeshan dragon faction — the Velious dragons broadly support the giants in the conflict against the dwarves, and Tormax's court includes a dragon advisor in some versions of the lore. His death therefore ripples beyond the Coldain faction: the Velious dragon courts treat the killer-guild differently afterward, and the Skyshrine quest network changes shape. The post-Tormax Velious is a measurably different political map than the pre-Tormax one.
Court and lieutenants
Kael Drakkel is held by the Kromrif standing army at every level: the lower city by the giant warrior caste, the middle keep by the king's lieutenants, and the throne room by his personal guard. Multiple named giant lieutenants are individually challenging raid encounters — Statue of Rallos Zek, the King's Champions, the throne-room warders — and the descent through the keep is a multi-week raid project to clear them all on rotation. Tormax is the final encounter in that progression, not a standalone pull.
Encounter
Tormax is a level 70+ single-spawn in the deep throne room of Kael Drakkel, fightable by a 24-54 player full raid in era-correct gear. His signature mechanics include a hard-hitting two-handed weapon swing against the tank, an AE knockback that can scatter the raid through the throne chamber and into adds, and a standing court of frost giant lieutenants that must be cleared before the king pull. The fight is a tank-and-spank against the giant model, with the wrinkle that the throne-room geometry creates choke points where the AE knockback can wipe a careless back rank.
The pull through the keep itself is non-trivial — Kael Drakkel is one of the most heavily populated raid zones of the era, and the path from the entry to Tormax's throne room requires either a deep clear or coordinated split-pulls. The Last Camp tuning may differ — verify before pulling.
Approach
The standard Tormax approach is a 24-36 player raid assembling in Eastern Wastes or the Great Divide, descending into Kael Drakkel through the Coldain-side or giant-side zone-in depending on faction posture, and committing to a multi-hour clear of the lieutenant rota before staging at the throne-room entrance. Cold and physical resists should be stacked on the tank line, and the back ranks should be positioned to absorb the AE knockback without sliding into adds. A standard kill clocks in at sixty to ninety minutes including the descent and clear.
