THE LAST CAMP

The Ulthork Tusk Dagger is the iconic Velious entry-tier one-hand piercing weapon, built from tusks looted off ulthorks in Iceclad Ocean. It is the canonical newbie-Velious money quest — kill walruses on the ice flats, save tusks, combine, equip. The dagger has a respectable damage/delay and a small DEX bump, making it the go-to off-hand piercer for any 19+ character arriving on Velious for the first time. It is also one of the most-twinked weapons in the game because of how cheap it is to farm.

Reward

Ulthork Tusk Dagger — 1H Piercing, modest damage/delay (canonical: roughly 6/24 era — confirm against the live items database), +DEX, low weight, Magic. All-class except those that can't equip piercers. Excellent off-hand for melee classes and the standard newbie-Rogue piercer for the Velious-arrival window.

The stats are not raid-tier — they sit comfortably in the early-Velious gear bracket, between the best Kunark-tier piercers and the mid-Velious crafted weapons.

Walkthrough

Step 1 — Travel to Iceclad Ocean

Iceclad Ocean is reached via boat from Erud's Crossing or via the Coldain ferry from Great Divide. The Erud's Crossing route is the classic "first arrival on Velious" path; the Great Divide ferry is faster if you've already established Velious presence.

Iceclad is a wide outdoor zone with a network of icebergs and a frozen ocean surface. Ulthorks roam the ice flats — dense in the central zones, scarcer on the edges.

Step 2 — Hunt ulthorks for tusks

Kill ulthorks on the ice. They drop:

Ulthork Tusks have a moderate drop rate. Expect 4-8 ulthork kills per tusk. The named ulthorks have higher drop rates and occasionally drop two tusks per kill.

Step 3 — Acquire the combine container or hilt component

The dagger is built by combining ulthork tusks with a hilt or binding component in the appropriate combine container. The canonical Velious recipe uses a smithy-grade combine container — confirm exact components against the live items database. Some classes can craft the binding themselves via Tailoring or Smithing; others purchase it from a Velious vendor.

Step 4 — Combine

Combine the tusk + binding in the recipe container. Receive Ulthork Tusk Dagger.

The combine is non-trivial in skill check — ulthork dagger combines have failed for low-skill characters. A backup tusk or two is recommended.

Iceclad faction notes

Iceclad Ocean overlaps with several factions:

  • Coldain — the friendly dwarves. Killing ulthorks does not directly affect Coldain faction, but the icebergs are home to occasional Coldain patrols. Don't accidentally pull a Coldain.
  • Othmir — the ice-otter faction. Ulthorks are Othmir-hostile, so killing ulthorks raises Othmir faction (positive — useful for Coldain Shawl and other Velious work).
  • Kromrif (giants) — present in Iceclad as patrols. Avoid if KOS.

Custom race-class adjustments

The Last Camp's any-race-class doctrine doesn't change the dagger combine. The two real friction points are:

  • Velious arrival faction. Dark Elves, Trolls, Ogres, and Iksar arriving on Velious face hostile faction at most NPCs. Ulthorks themselves are NPC-faction-hostile to all races (they're a wild-mob faction), so the kill itself is fine. The combine NPC or vendor selling the binding may not be — verify before traveling.
  • Class-piercer use. The dagger is the canonical off-hand for Rogues but is equippable by most melee classes. Bards and Monks find the DEX bump useful even as a temporary equip.

Ulthork variants

Iceclad Ocean hosts several ulthork variants — common ulthork hunters, larger ulthork bulls, and rare named ulthorks with bigger HP pools. The named drop tusks at higher rates and occasionally drop the rare ulthork-loot pieces (claws, hide armor components). They share the same ice-flats spawn area as the common variants.

Don't confuse Iceclad ulthorks with Velious-elsewhere walrus-type mobs in Cobalt Scar — those are a different mob family with a different loot table and do not drop ulthork tusks.

Tips

  • Twink with this dagger. It costs ~30 minutes of Iceclad farming and lasts a melee character from level 19 well into the 30s.
  • Get Othmir faction in the same trip. Ulthork kills naturally raise Othmir faction, which helps with later Velious quest work.
  • Don't pull multiple ulthorks at once at low level. They hit for noticeable melee damage and aggro hold tight on the ice flats.
  • Watch for icebergs. Iceclad's geography is unforgiving — falling off a melting iceberg is a real risk.
  • Combine container matters. Wrong-container combines fail; check the items database for the current recipe.
  • The dagger isn't lore. You can carry multiples — useful for dual-piercer Rogues and Monks.
