  • North Freeport / East Freeport (zone lines)
  • West Commonlands (western gate)

West Freeport is the commercial and arcane third of Freeport — the side of the city that faces the open road. Where North Freeport is temples and knightly orders and East Freeport is the working waterfront, West Freeport is the Academy, the martial guilds, and the militia: the arcane Academy of the Arcane Scientists (the city's wizards and magicians, led by the enchanter Opal Darkbriar), the Steel Warriors warrior hall, the Ashen Order monk guild, the broad markets of the Coalition of Tradefolk, and the Freeport Militia headquarters where Sir Lucan D'Lere commands the city watch. Its western gate opens onto West Commonlands, so every traveler crossing Antonica passes through here — and the streets between the guild halls are a newbie hunting ground of Deathfist orcs and city vermin.

Districts

West Freeport reads as guild halls and market streets wrapped around an open run of orc-and-vermin hunting:

  • The Academy — the hall of the Arcane Scientists, the largest single presence in the zone (36 NPCs). The city's wizards, magicians, and enchanters train here; the enchantress Opal Darkbriar anchors the guild. The Plane of Knowledge stone stands near the Academy.
  • The Hall of the Steel Warriors — the Steel Warriors warrior guild (16 NPCs), where Freeport's fighters train.
  • The Ashen Order — the city's monk guild (8 NPCs).
  • The militia headquarters — the Freeport Militia (31 NPCs) keeps its command on this side of the city, where Sir Lucan D'Lere and his guard captains hold the western gate. This is the militia's seat; the patrols spread to the other two zones.
  • The markets — the Coalition of Tradefolk civilian quarter: general, armor, and supply merchants, bankers, and innkeepers (45th-level shopkeepers run the stalls).
  • The streets — scattered camps of Deathfist orcs (Orc Centurions and Deathfist Pawns) and city vermin (rats, bats, snakes, decaying skeletons) make West Freeport a steady level 1–10 hunting ground right inside the city walls.

Named NPCs

West Freeport's "named" are mostly guild trainers, guards, and merchants — civic NPCs on the city's standard ~11-minute respawn — with one true standout on a long timer.

NPC Level Respawn Notes
Sir Lucan D'Lere 48 ~4 hr (TAKP-canonical) Commander of the Freeport Militia; holds the western gate
Opal Darkbriar 61 ~11 min Arcane Scientists guild figure (High Elf enchanter)
Arcane Scientists trainers 61 ~11 min Wizard / magician / enchanter guild cohort (the Academy)
Steel Warriors trainers 61 ~11 min Warrior guild cohort
Ashen Order trainers 61 ~11 min Monk guild cohort
Coalition merchants 45 ~11 min Markets — general, armor, supply, banking
Freeport Militia guards 50 ~11 min City watch (Guard Bonlo, Doolin, Jacsen, Munden, et al.)

Primary factions

West Freeport is a lawful Freeport quarter — standing is governed by the city's arcane, martial, and civic orders:

  • Arcane Scientists — the wizard/magician Academy; the dominant faction in the zone.
  • The Freeport Militia — the city guard, headquartered here under Sir Lucan D'Lere.
  • Coalition of Tradefolk (and the Coalition of Tradefolk Underground) — the merchant guild that runs the markets and bank.
  • Steel Warriors — the warrior guild.
  • Ashen Order — the monk guild.
  • Death Fist Orcs — the orc raiders and their pawns in the streets; killing them is the newbie's bread and butter and is friendly to the city orders.

Killing the city's guildmasters, guards, and merchants damages standing with their orders; clearing the Deathfist orcs and street vermin is the safe, faction-friendly grind.

Loot highlights

West Freeport is a city hub, not a raid zone — most NPCs are trainers, guards, and merchants whose drops are vendor-tier (guard ringmail and rawhide, plain swords and warhammers, research scrolls). The hunting value is on the streets: the Deathfist orcs (Orc Centurions and Deathfist Pawns) drop the classic Deathfist newbie loot, and the Academy's named caster NPCs carry spell-research pages and runes (Words of *, Rune of *, Salil's Writ) plus the occasional robe. Loot is TAKP-canonical — no era-incorrect drops, no inflated chances.
