THE LAST CAMP

Playing a Halfling on The Last Camp is the small-frame, sneaky, durable-priest pick. Halflings are canonically Warrior, Cleric, Druid, Paladin, Ranger, and Rogue — a strong outdoor-and-priest roster with no canonical pure casters and no canonical Bard. The Last Camp unlocks Bard, Shadow Knight, Monk, Necromancer, Wizard, Magician, Enchanter, Shaman, Beastlord, and Berserker on the chassis.

The race has the small-frame upside on every class, infravision, an exceptional DEX/AGI curve for Rogues and Rangers, and Rivervale as one of the gentlest starting cities in the game.

Why this race

Halflings are the small-frame priest-and-rogue chassis — Cleric and Druid both ride the WIS curve well, Rogue and Ranger both ride the DEX/AGI curve. Infravision plus the small hitbox makes Halflings exceptional dungeon characters. The race's natural Sneak and Hide bonus is a quiet upside on classes that wouldn't normally have stealth.

Rivervale is one of EQ's most underrated starting cities — Misty Thicket is a forgiving newbie zone, the city has every essential vendor, the Karana corridor opens fast.

Stat profile detail

Halfling starting stats lean on DEX (95) and AGI (95) — top-tier on both — and WIS (80). STR (70), STA (75), INT (67), and CHA (50) are all weak.

For Druid, the WIS floor is high enough to make Halfling Druid mechanically the second-best Druid chassis after High Elf. For Rogue and Ranger, the DEX/AGI ceiling is best-in-class — Halfling Rogues parry, dodge, and crit more than any other Rogue race in the canonical roster.

The race's +5 poison resist and +5 disease resist baseline is small but lore-grounded (Misty Thicket farmer biology) and helps in low-level outdoor zones.

Canonical class fits

Halfling Druid of Karana is the signature pick — small frame plus quad-kite plus the canonical Karana faith. Halfling Rogue with high DEX/AGI and the racial Hide bonus is one of the best Rogue chassis in the game. Cleric of Bristlebane or Mithaniel Marr is excellent. Paladin small-frame plate is great in dungeons. Ranger of Karana fits perfectly.

The Last Camp exotic combos

Halfling Bard is the headline unlock — small frame, infravision, high DEX/AGI for instrument skills. There's a real "burrow-folk minstrel" charm to it that's hard to match. Halfling Wizard and Halfling Magician are mechanically fine on AAs at 65 — the small frame helps in everything.

Halfling Necromancer and Halfling Shadow Knight are the lore-bizarre picks — Bertoxxulous or Cazic-Thule deity, and the faction grind from a Rivervale baseline to Paineel Heretics is the standard exotic-combo work. There is something funny about a Halfling Necromancer that the lore community has embraced.

Halfling Monk is mechanically excellent — small frame, top-tier AGI, the racial Hide bonus stacking with Monk's existing utility. Halfling Beastlord of Karana or Bristlebane with a wolf or fox warder is one of the cleanest exotic combos. Halfling Enchanter works fine; Halfling Shaman of the Tribunal is the post-revamp Marr-blessed pick.

Faction implications

Halflings wake up friendly to most good-faction cities: Rivervale, Surefall Glade, Qeynos, Kaladim, Felwithe, Kelethin. The faction wall is at the evil cities — Neriak, Grobb, Oggok, Cabilis. The Misty Thicket → Kithicor → Karanas → PoK route is the canonical newbie travel path; book to PoK from Rivervale's PoK book location and most travel becomes trivial.

Recommended starting picks

Halfling Druid is a top-three new-player recommendation on The Last Camp — fast travel from level 14, strong solo curve, easy faction, signature canonical class. Halfling Cleric for the priest-first pick. Halfling Rogue for the stealth-first pick.

Cultural and racial gear

Cultural Halfling armor is a leather-and-cloth set tuned for the canonical priest/ranger/rogue roster. Rivervale's quest network is shared with Frogloks (post-revamp) and is one of the most newbie-friendly in the game. The Misty Thicket-Kithicor-Karana-Surefall corridor has dense low-level quest gear from level 1 to level 25.

Tradeoffs to know

  • Best small-frame chassis on the server — the Hide racial bonus stacks with every class, the small hitbox helps everywhere, and the DEX/AGI bias rewards almost the whole exotic-class roster.
  • Infravision plus small frame plus innate Sneak/Hide makes Halfling the cleanest stealth-class chassis in the game.
  • STR/STA penalty is real on melee tanks — Halfling Warriors and Paladins are mechanically the smallest-HP-pool tanks on the server.
  • Rivervale-Misty-Kithicor-Karanas corridor is one of the gentlest 1-25 leveling paths on the server.
  • No canonical Bard is the famous oddity The Last Camp fixes — Halfling Bards are the third-best Bard chassis on the server after Vah Shir and Wood Elf.

Group and raid role summary

  • Best canonical fits: Druid of Karana (signature pick), Cleric, Paladin (small-frame plate), Ranger, Rogue (top stealth chassis).
  • Best The Last Camp-exotic fits: Bard (the famous canonical missing slot), Monk, Beastlord with wolf or fox warder.
  • Avoid: Warrior raid main-tank role (smallest HP pool of any tank race).

Lore notes

Halflings are descendants of a peaceful agricultural people who settled the Misty Thicket and built Rivervale. They worship Bristlebane (mischief, the patron god of the race), Karana (storms and travel), Erollisi Marr (love), Mithaniel Marr (honor), and Brell Serilis (the underworld home). They are canonically friendly with most good-aligned races and avoid combat unless cornered — the race's identity is hospitality, gardening, and being underestimated until the Rogue's poisoned blade lands.
