THE LAST CAMP

Playing a High Elf on The Last Camp is the regal, high-INT-and-WIS pure-caster-and-priest pick. High Elves are canonical Cleric, Paladin, Magician, Wizard, and Enchanter — the tightest canonical roster of any race, all built around devotion to Tunare and arcane scholarship. The Last Camp unlocks Warrior, Shadow Knight, Druid, Monk, Bard, Rogue, Necromancer, Shaman, Beastlord, Ranger, and Berserker on the chassis.

The race has top-end starting INT (third only to Erudite and Gnome) and top-end WIS, the regal Koada'Dal aesthetic, and Felwithe as one of the most beautiful starting cities in the game.

Why this race

High Elf is the pure-caster-and-priest chassis with the strongest combined INT/WIS curve. The race carries Levitate-equivalent racial flavor in some lore readings (cosmetic), the cultural elegance is real, and Felwithe is the only city in the game with a canonical Paladin guildhall (the Paladins of Tunare).

The faction position is ideal for any good-aligned class — friendly with the entire Faydark axis (Felwithe, Kelethin, Kaladim, Ak'Anon) and most Antonican good-aligned cities.

Stat profile detail

High Elf starting stats lean on INT (97) and WIS (97) — top-tier on both, the only race with this combined bias. CHA (80) is the highest in the canonical good-race roster. AGI (85) is good. STR (55), STA (60), and DEX (70) are uniformly weak.

The combined INT/WIS bias is what makes High Elf the only race that's first-rate at both pure-caster classes (Wizard, Magician) AND priest classes (Cleric, Paladin) without compromising. Every other top-INT race (Erudite, Gnome, Dark Elf) has a WIS gap that matters for priests.

The race's +5 magic resist baseline is small but lore-grounded — Tunare's blessing of resilience.

Canonical class fits

High Elf Wizard, Magician, and Enchanter are the signature pure-caster picks — top INT, the canonical arcane-scholar lineage, and the Felwithe magic guildhall to study at. Cleric of Tunare is one of the best priest combos in the game. Paladin of Tunare is the canonical High Elf paladin chassis — top-end WIS plate tank with the canonical good-deity that no other race gets.

The Last Camp exotic combos

High Elf Druid and High Elf Ranger are the lore-natural unlocks — Tunare is already the canonical High Elf deity, so the deity story writes itself. The race fits these classes thematically better than half the canonical lineups; The Last Camp's any-race-class doctrine just makes them legal.

High Elf Necromancer is the deity puzzle — Innoruuk or Bertoxxulous required, both anathema to Tunare. The faction grind from Felwithe to Paineel Heretics or Neriak Indigo Brotherhood is the longest in the game (see faction custom combos). Some players find the "fallen High Elf" lore appealing enough to do it.

High Elf Shadow Knight has the same deity problem, same solution. High Elf Monk is mechanically odd (tall frame, low STR) but the Quellious meditation-and-discipline lore fits the Koada'Dal scholar identity. High Elf Bard is excellent — top CHA, top INT for song memorization. High Elf Beastlord with a unicorn-aesthetic warder is a flavorful exotic pick.

High Elf Warrior is mechanically the worst tank race in the game (low STA, tall frame) but has its niche as a "knight without divine grace" roleplay. High Elf Rogue suffers on STR but works in groups.

Faction implications

High Elves wake up friendly to the entire good-aligned roster: Felwithe, Kelethin, Kaladim, Ak'Anon, Qeynos, Surefall, Rivervale, the Tunare temples, and most good-aligned outdoor zones. The faction wall is at every evil city — Neriak, Grobb, Oggok, Cabilis are kill-on-sight. The Faydark-to-PoK route through Greater Faydark is one of the easiest in the game.

Recommended starting picks

High Elf Wizard and High Elf Magician are the easiest first characters — strong solo curve, top INT, beautiful newbie city, easy faction. High Elf Cleric of Tunare is the easiest priest start. High Elf Paladin of Tunare is the canonical-tank pick that pairs well with any Felwithe Cleric in a duo.

Cultural and racial gear

Cultural High Elf is a refined silk-and-mithril set tuned for casters and priests. Felwithe has a dense quest network for Paladin-of-Tunare gear, Wizard scholar quests, and a solid Cleric leveling path. The Greater Faydark to Crushbone Keep corridor is one of the densest mid-level group-quest hubs in the game and feeds directly into High Elf-friendly armor drops.

Tradeoffs to know

  • Top-end combined INT/WIS is the chassis identity — every priest and pure-caster class rides it well.
  • Tall hitbox is a slight dungeon liability and matters on melee classes (rare for High Elf).
  • STR/STA penalty makes High Elf Warrior the mechanically worst tank race in the game; only roll one for roleplay.
  • Tunare-axis quest gear in Felwithe is some of the best low-level race-specific gear in the game.
  • The Faydark to PoK route via Greater Faydark lift is one of the gentlest on the server — High Elves get easy travel from level 5+.

Group and raid role summary

  • Best canonical fits: pure-caster DPS (Wizard, Magician), priest (Cleric of Tunare, Paladin of Tunare), debuff (Enchanter).
  • Best The Last Camp-exotic fits: Druid of Tunare (lore-natural), Ranger of Tunare, Bard (top CHA + INT).
  • Avoid: Warrior raid main-tank role (mechanically the worst tank chassis on the server).

Lore notes

High Elves (the Koada'Dal) are the original elven race, descendants of the first Tunare-blessed people of Norrath. They live in Felwithe (the Paladin-and-Cleric quarter) within Greater Faydark, ruled by King Tearis Thex. Their primary deity is Tunare; secondary deities are Erollisi Marr (love) and Quellious (tranquility). The Koada'Dal view themselves as the eldest civilized race and most other races as junior to their tradition. Dark Elves are their cursed-and-corrupted cousins, and that ancient feud is permanent.
