THE LAST CAMP

Playing a Wood Elf on The Last Camp is the agile, forest-warden, fastest-run-speed pick. Wood Elves are canonically Warrior, Bard, Druid, Ranger, and Rogue — the canonical outdoor-and-melee roster built around Tunare worship and the Kelethin treetop city. The Last Camp unlocks Cleric, Paladin, Shadow Knight, Monk, Necromancer, Wizard, Magician, Enchanter, Shaman, Beastlord, and Berserker on the chassis.

The race has the highest natural run speed in the game (Forage class — Wood Elves outpace SoW at level 1), top-end AGI and DEX, and infravision. Kelethin is one of EQ's most beautiful starting cities — a treetop platform city with the canonical Druid and Ranger guildhalls.

Why this race

Wood Elf is the agile-outdoor-class chassis. The natural run speed bonus stacks with class run speed buffs — a Wood Elf Druid with SoW outpaces almost anything on foot, which matters for solo play, exploration, and corpse runs. AGI is best-in-class for Rogue and Bard. The race has Forage as a racial skill on every class, which is a real low-level food/drink utility.

Kelethin's location in Greater Faydark is one of the best-positioned starting cities on the map — short hop to Felwithe, Kaladim, Ak'Anon, and the Crushbone-Lesser Faydark mid-level network.

Stat profile detail

Wood Elf starting stats lean on AGI (95) and DEX (80) — top-tier on both — and WIS (80). STR (65), STA (65), INT (75), CHA (75) are mid-low. The racial run speed bonus is the headline trait — highest natural movement speed in the game.

For Druid and Ranger, the WIS-and-AGI combination plus the run speed bonus plus the Forage racial makes Wood Elf mechanically the best canonical Druid/Ranger chassis. For Bard, the AGI/CHA/DEX triangle is excellent (second only to Vah Shir).

There's no major resist bonus baseline — the race's stat advantage is concentrated in the agility-and-mobility profile rather than defensive saves.

Canonical class fits

Wood Elf Bard is one of the signature picks — top AGI, top run speed, infravision, the canonical Kelethin bard guild. Wood Elf Druid of Tunare is the canonical "forest warden" pick — quad-kite efficient, fast travel, beautiful starting zone. Wood Elf Ranger of Tunare is the canonical archer-tracker. Wood Elf Rogue runs strong on AGI/DEX. Warrior is workable but suffers on STA.

The Last Camp exotic combos

Wood Elf Cleric of Tunare is the cleanest unlock — Tunare is canonical, the Felwithe Cleric guild is friendly, the WIS curve is OK. Wood Elf Paladin of Tunare has the same clean fit (the only race that gets Paladin-of-Tunare canonically is High Elf, but Wood Elf works on any-race-class). The mid-frame plate tank with run speed is mechanically interesting.

Wood Elf Shaman of Tunare is one of the more lore-creative exotic combos — there's no canonical Wood Elf Shaman tradition, but a "spirit of the forest" Shaman reads naturally. Wood Elf Beastlord with a wolf or bear warder fits Ranger-adjacent flavor exactly.

Wood Elf Necromancer and Wood Elf Shadow Knight require deity gymnastics — Innoruuk or Bertoxxulous is anathema to Tunare. The faction grind to Paineel Heretics or Neriak is documented in faction custom combos.

Wood Elf Monk is mechanically excellent — top AGI, run speed, mid-frame, the Quellious-meditation lore fits the Kelethin contemplative-forest tradition. Wood Elf Wizard, Magician, and Enchanter all work fine on the modest INT curve with AAs.

Faction implications

Wood Elves wake up friendly to the entire good-Faydwer axis: Kelethin, Felwithe, Kaladim, Ak'Anon. They have one of the easiest paths to PoK on The Last Camp — book up from Greater Faydark via the Kelethin lift. Most Antonican good cities are friendly or neutral. The hostile factions to manage are the Crushbone orcs (right next door, a mid-level group quest hub), Runnyeye, and the Neriak axis.

For exotic combos with deity conflicts (Necromancer, Shadow Knight), the faction wall in Felwithe is real — Wood Elf NPCs will distrust evil-deity-aligned characters even within the friendly home city. PoK access lets you train regardless.

Recommended starting picks

Wood Elf Druid of Tunare is one of the most-recommended new-player picks on The Last Camp — fast travel from level 14, strong solo curve, easy faction, signature canonical class, top run speed. Wood Elf Bard is the second-tier most-flexible pick with the strongest 1-65 solo curve. Wood Elf Ranger of Tunare for the canonical archer-tracker.

Cultural and racial gear

Cultural Wood Elf is a leather-and-silk set tuned for the Druid/Ranger/Bard/Rogue canonical roster. The Kelethin-Greater-Faydark-Lesser-Faydark-The Last Camp corridor is the densest mid-level group-quest hub in the game and feeds directly into Wood Elf-friendly armor drops. Forage racial gives free food/drink on every Wood Elf character.

Tradeoffs to know

  • Highest natural run speed in the game — outpaces SoW at level 1, stacks with class run speed buffs for top-end mobility.
  • Forage racial gives free food and drink at level 1 on every Wood Elf class — a real money saver early.
  • Infravision plus run speed plus the Kelethin treetop platform is the most mobile starting race-and-city pairing on the server.
  • STR/STA penalty is real on melee tanks — Wood Elf Warriors and Paladins are mechanically among the smallest-HP-pool tanks.
  • Falling damage from Kelethin platforms kills new Wood Elf players more than any monster in Greater Faydark — watch your step.

Group and raid role summary

  • Best canonical fits: Druid of Tunare (signature pick), Ranger of Tunare, Bard (top AGI + DEX), Rogue.
  • Best The Last Camp-exotic fits: Cleric of Tunare, Paladin of Tunare, Beastlord with wolf or bear warder.
  • Avoid: Warrior raid main-tank role (small HP pool, low STA), Necromancer unless committing to faction grind.

Lore notes

Wood Elves (the Feir'Dal) are Tunare's woodland children, descended from the same migration that produced High Elves but choosing the forest over the city. They live in Kelethin (a treetop platform city in Greater Faydark) under Queen Lenya Thex. They worship Tunare (primary), Karana (storms and travel), and Solusek Ro (some Druid traditions). Their cultural identity is forest-warden discipline, song-and-story tradition (the Bard lineage), and a permanent commitment to defend the Faydark from the Crushbone orcs and Innoruuk-aligned threats.
