Plane of Disease
Bertoxxulous's outer plague-realm. Disease-heavy patrols, the entry to the Crypt of Decay, and the start of the rot lord's flag chain.
- Plane of Tranquility
- Crypt of Decay
- Plane of Innovation
Plane of Disease (PoD) is the outer realm of Bertoxxulous, the Plaguebringer, god of pestilence and rot. The zone presents as a blighted, festering plain of bog water, plague pools, and crumbling sanatoria, populated by plague-touched servants, diseased beasts, and the Plaguebringer's lesser priesthood. Mobs here apply disease DoTs almost universally — the zone's signature mechanic and its first real lesson in PoP-era resist gear discipline. PoD itself is the approach; the deeper Crypt of Decay holds the named tribute fights and the Bertoxxulous arena. PoD sits with Plane of Innovation and Plane of Nightmares in the introductory raid tier, and the three together form the lower-PoP progression triangle.
Content
- Plague-touched rotting humanoids and beasts — the bulk of trash, all carrying disease procs.
- Festering aspects — caster patrols, layered DoT effects.
- Diseased beasts — large bog creatures, melee-heavy with stacking disease damage.
- Bertoxxulous's lieutenants — outer named, drop key components for the Crypt access chain.
- Plague-priest named — caster-type lieutenants, magic and disease resist required.
- Portal to Crypt of Decay — gated by the lieutenant kills; central PoD progression goal.
- Resist-gear drops — disease-aspected pieces that itemize specifically for later-plane prep.
Why bother
Plane of Disease is the ramp to one of the more memorable PoP raid arcs. Bertoxxulous loot, the disease-themed class armor pieces, and several Cleric, Druid, and Shaman epic-adjacent components all funnel through PoD and the Crypt. For groups grinding XP at 60-65, PoD delivers — the trash density is high, the named cycle is steady, and the disease damage forces a real gear discipline that pays off in later planes. The disease-resist gear that drops here equips a player for nearly every plague-themed encounter through the rest of the era.
The zone is also the first PoP zone where disease resistance crosses from "nice to have" to "non-negotiable." Players who farm PoD to gear up for resist sets find every later plague encounter — and several non-PoP fights — much easier. The approach to Bertoxxulous through the Crypt is one of the longer flag chains in the era, and PoD is where it begins; an alt or recruit who skips PoD will hit a wall at the Crypt portal that takes weeks to reopen.
Using it well
Enter from Plane of Tranquility via the PoD stone. Cure Disease spells and resist gear are mandatory before pulling anything in the inner zones — the DoT stacks fast and a cleric without disease cure is a wiped cleric. Aim for a balanced disease and magic resist set, with cold as a secondary. Pre-buff the resist line before every pull; the contagion doesn't wait for casts.
The Last Camp's open class system smooths out a common PoD bottleneck: cleric supply. Any race can roll a cleric here, including races that canonically can't, which keeps the disease-cure column staffed for guilds running parallel groups. Watch for the plague-priest patrols — they cast on long range and will pull adjacent pulls if not silenced. Save the Bertoxxulous lieutenant named for last; their drops gate the Crypt portal, and you don't want to repeat the trash pulls leading up to the lieutenant kill. A clean PoD session ends with the portal active and the next session pre-staged for the Crypt run.
