Zones
Upper Guk
The upper froglok dungeon under Innothule Swamp. Crocodiles at the entry pond, frogloks throughout, and the only path down to Lower Guk.
- Innothule Swamp
- Lower Guk
Upper Guk is the upper tier of the Guk dungeon complex, reached from Innothule Swamp. The frogloks who live here are the upper society of a civilization that has been split for generations — the lower city, in Lower Guk, is what their cousins became after the schism. Aggressive, dense, and one of the most XP-rich dungeons in the early-to-mid Classic range.
The dungeon is a multi-level cave-and-temple system with crocodile pulls at the entry pond, froglok patrols throughout the middle floors, and the connection to Lower Guk at the back. For a group at level fifteen through twenty-five, Upper Guk is one of the highest-yield experience zones in the era — the mob density is generous, the named cycle reasonably fast, and the loot table includes class-flavored drops that hold value into the high twenties.
Content
- Crocodiles at the entry pond, low-teens warmup pulls
- Froglok scouts and warriors scaling 12 to 22 across the middle floors
- Froglok shamans and casters — caster pulls, crowd-control priority
- Named froglok lieutenants with class-specific drops
- Quest hand-ins for froglok-faction and Innoruuk-aligned characters
- Connection down to Lower Guk at the back of the zone
Named NPCs
All four named are placeholder-driven on a roughly 16-minute spawn cycle (TAKP-canonical), so the named itself appears on a chance after each cycle rather than on a fixed clock.
| NPC | Level | Respawn | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| the_froglok_shin_lord | 30 | ~16m PH cycle | Highest-level named; back of the temple floor (~200, 0) |
| the_froglok_warden | 25 | ~16m PH cycle | Mid-floor guard room (~0, 200) |
| Tempus | 24 – 25 | ~16m PH cycle | Gnome necromancer, two level variants |
Primary factions
- Frogloks of Guk — the dominant zone faction; nearly the entire froglok city (warriors, shamans, knights, guards, fungus tenders) shares the three Guk tiers, so kills swing froglok standing as a bloc.
- Alligator / Swamp — the swampwater crocodiles at and around the entry pond carry their own animal faction, separate from the frogloks.
- Guk Spiders — the heart-spider cluster near the lower connection runs its own KOS/indifferent spider faction rather than generic dungeon hostility.
Why bother
Upper Guk is the canonical mid-Classic XP dungeon for any character in the level fifteen to twenty-five range. The mob density supports static groups for several real-world weeks of farming, the named loot is era-correct gear that compares favorably to anything else at the level, and the dungeon teaches the fundamentals — pull discipline, mez priority, camp rotation — that the rest of Classic-era dungeons will keep asking for.
The zone is also the only path to Lower Guk, which means every character who eventually wants to run the lower dungeon for the boss tier will pass through Upper Guk first. On The Last Camp the any-race-class doctrine widens the door — an Erudite Shaman or a High Elf Warrior can run the dungeon for the loot just as cleanly as a canonical Troll, and the frogloks do not check race when assigning hostility. For a player whose long arc is Lower Guk's named ladder, Upper is the warm-up.
Using it well
Mez the shamans first. Froglok casters land slows and direct damage on a tight cycle, and a fight that drags two casts long will lose the puller before threat lands. A single competent crowd-control class smooths the entire dungeon — Enchanter is the canonical pick, but a Bard or a Druid root rotation handles the same problem.
Pull camps deliberately. The middle-floor geometry has patrols that loop into named rooms, and a sloppy clear in one camp will waterfall a second pull onto the same group. The connection down to Lower Guk is at the back of the zone — characters who plan to push through to the lower dungeon should clear a clean path first rather than trying to skip through patrol-heavy halls.
